What a great find!!! This artwork was made by the Carrillo Jimenez family of Tateikie, Jalisco, Mexico. The Carrillos are Wixarika (Huichol) Indians, and their artwork is filled with images significant to their traditional religion. Deer, corn and peyote factor preeminently, as well as the sun, the moon, flowers, eagles, snakes and scorpions. Artwork to the Wixarika is the material embodiment of prayers for good health and safety for their children. The glass beads are affixed with beeswax to the hand-carved wooden form.
